About

My medium is wood, and although my work is varied I have narrowed the styles of my approach to woodworking, to four distinct areas.

Intarsia/marquetry
I love the natural wood colours and use my aged scroll saw to paint nature.  My style uses thicker wood than marquetry and relies on tighter fitting pieces than intarsia.  I guess I’m just odd.

Driftwood Enhancement
Cath and I walk daily.  Often this is on the beaches of Saint John N.B. and the driftwood we find is too interesting to leave.  Tooled hardwood is used to enhance these finds.

Machines
I can’t fix my car when it is broken but I still love creating wooden machines.  The gears are cut on a hobby bandsaw and only wood is used.  This is a drawback as summer swelling sometimes renders them briefly inoperable.

Carving/turning

I am neither a carver nor a turner but I manage to do enough to build wooden vases to hold wooden flowers. I suppose this is my response to numerous failures in the garden (darn deer).  I curse the deer but I’d love to be able to carve them.
